How can the Student Folder Activity in Moodle be used for Group Collaboration?

Answer

The Student Folder activity in Moodle allows an instructor to set up a folder into which students can upload one or more files. If the instructors gives consent, the students' files can be shared with other class participants. The Student Folder can be used for student collaboration, group work and peer review.

To add the Student Folder activity:

  1. With editing turned on, click an "Add an activity or resource" link on the main page of your course.
  2. Select Student Folder from the Activity list.
  3. Provide a Name, and Description (if desired).
  4. Select a Mode - choose the source of the files coming into the folder - either student upload into the folder or taken from an assignment.
  5. Select the appropriate options based on the Mode you selected. (Be sure to note the Approval options for each Mode. Depending on the Mode, either you or the student will be asked to approve the document before it will be available to other participants.)
  6. Select setting for the Timeslot when files can be uploaded and approved for publication by students.
  7. Select Notification options.
  8. Click Save and Display.
